So, I was actually going to watch Fate/Zero next, but I had issues with the video, so I decided to watch something else until I could straighten it out. I went with My Love Story!!, which I found out about through sheer dumb luck. I don't usually watch romance or slice of life anime, as a rule, but when I read the premise of this one, I had to try it.

No spoilers, I think! )

Final verdict? I loved it. If you like shoujo/romance anime, watch this. Even if you don't, watch it anyway. Now I need to see if I can find the manga. Wikipedia says there are 13 volumes, so there's a decent chance that not all of that fit into 24 episodes. And I would love to see more of Takeo and Yamato, and Suna~!

I feel like I'm a teenager again, in the best possible way. =D

From early on, two fandoms that were really important to me were DragonBall Z and Yuugiou. They were some of my earlier ones, and I was super into them, for a long time. Hell, I still am. *Gestures to journal theme* And the source material for both have been wrapped up for a long time, as well.

Or, they were.

When I was out shopping on Sunday, I stopped to look at the new releases in the movie section at Wal-Mart. I wasn't really looking for anything particular. I'd gone to the electronics department to pick up a new thumb drive, and I decided to browse a little. And there, on the rack in the front, was a new Yuugiou movie. I picked it up, not really expecting much. Yuugiou's gotten such a rotten treatment locally, I figured it'd be some poorly handled, dub-only thing. But, no. The box lists both Japanese and English as spoken languages. So I whip out my phone and Google it, and see that it's a legit new movie from Japan. Featuring the original cast (or, at least Yugi and Kaiba), not people from any of the many spin-offs. It's set after the manga, and the story was done by Kazuki Takahashi himself!

So, yeah. I had to buy it. I also tracked down the two chapter manga prologue that leads into the movie. Done by Takahashi-sensei, of course. <3 I haven't watched it yet, but I hope to have time soon. That'll likely be my next post, actually!

And I also mentioned DragonBall Z earlier. Well, you may or may not have heard, but apparently they began doing a new DB series a little while back, called DragonBall Super. I'd heard about it, vaguely, but I didn't pay it much attention at the time. I knew they'd done Kai as well, but that was really just a remake of the original, with the filler removed. I might like to see it at some point...but I seem to remember hearing that it hadn't been reanimated, except for certain key scenes. So, if it's just the old footage cobbled together, that's not very exciting. I'll probably watch it eventually, as I am a completionist, and DragonBall was either my first or second anime series ever.

But, Kai aside. They're doing a new series called Super, and I finally decided to look into it. Apparently, it's retconning GT, which is very interesting. I actually haven't gotten around to watching GT yet, largely because the fandom at large seems to hate it. I planned to watch it at least once, just so I could say I did. And I still plan to do that...but now, that's been pushed back that much more. I'm going to watch Super first. I just downloaded the first 97 episodes, which is all of what's out, so far. I'm thinking I might watch this after I watch the new Yuugiou movie, but I haven't decided yet.

So, two of my oldest and dearest fandoms, of which I thought the source material to be complete, are getting new material. I am so excited, I almost don't know what to do with myself. I just hope the new material is good.

Ugh, I swear...I feel like I haven't been on the computer (for fun) in ages...

I've been busy with school, of course. Had some tests that I had to take with that creepy lockdown browser, so I had to do that after work. I also got back into my Raspberry Pi again, and I've been playing a little Final Fantasy VI. <3 I think I'm almost half-way through it? I'm at the point right before it switches to the World of Ruin, whatever that is. The walkthrough I'm following has me running around doing things, because apparently, this is the last chance for a lot of stuff. So, once I finish doing miscellaneous tasks, I'll head into that next dungeon, and things should get interesting. =D

I don't know if I ever talked about my Raspberry Pi before. I know I meant to write a post on it, back when I got it, but I think I ended up forgetting. ^^;; Well, basically, a Raspberry Pi is a teeny, tiny computer. The thing seriously fits in the palm of my hand. And you can run all sorts of stuff on it, really, but my family uses them for video game emulators.

Brief squeeing within. )

Oh, and I got sick. Again. =/ Earlier this week, my tonsils swelled up and I got all congested. Not fun. Honestly, I'm almost more offended than anything. I just was sick, maybe a month ago? If that? And now, here I am again. Luckily, it's not the same thing, because what I had last time was pretty rough. This isn't as bad as that. It still sucks, though.

So, between being too tired or sick to do more than watch TV, and playing some FFVI, I really haven't gotten on the computer just for fun in a couple of weeks, probably. Although, hell...I haven't read anything in even longer. =( I seriously need to get a better handle on my time management skills. I have work and homework to do, obviously, but sometimes I drag my feet too much on the homework. I get distracted, or whatever, and I end up wasting a lot of time. And it's not even fun time wasting, like taking a break to read or something. No, it's just surfing Facebook and playing stupid games on my phone. Part of the problem is this stupid project that I have to do for my Econ class. I know I need to start on it, because I have no idea how long it'll take to get it done. But it's just a daunting task to start a big paper like that. So, I sit down and intend to work on it...and I end up wasting my time on stupid stuff, instead. And then, if I have free time after work, I'm often too tired to feel like doing anything fun. Hence my being a slug in front of the TV.

Meh. I'm just feeling a little sorry for myself, I guess. It's stupid, but whatever. I just want to read. Or watch some anime. (I just picked up the two Sailor Moon Crystal sets that are out, plus I've still got stuff from Christmas that I haven't had time to watch.) I want to make graphics or read fanfic, or surf the internet for neat stuff 'til the wee hours of the morning. I want my hobbies, damn it. And lately, I just haven't had enough time or energy. I watch TV, which is nice, but it's more a way to lay around and rest, rather than that I'm super excited about what I'm watching. I want to do something because it's fun. I am having fun playing FFVI, but I'm not really playing that much. And I'm running around doing miscellaneous stuff right now, not even advancing the story.

...Geez, this post turned out really whiny, didn't it? Oops. >_>
wildvision: (Heero/Duo - One step further)
Well, to continue with my holiday baking, I've done a few more batches of cookies. One of which was a little special. I just finished making my grandma's cut-out cookies. She used to make these with us every year for Christmas, when we were little. Of course, she'd do most of the work; mixing, rolling out the dough, baking. But she'd let us cut out the shapes and frost them once they were cooled. And of course, as a little kid, that was a lot of fun. They're tasty cookies, but I've always had a soft spot for these just because of the memories involved. Whenever I eat them, I remember being a kid, making cookies with Grandma. <3 So, it was really nice to learn how to make them. Yeah, they're pretty labor intensive. (I see why Mom left these for Grandma to do with us!) They're definitely a once-a-year cookie. But I'm glad that I can make them now, if I want. <3

I just got an email from Amazon, saying I've received a credit to my account, due to the settlement in the Apple antitrust lawsuit.

I remember hearing about that, years ago...something to do with price fixing, I think? Conspiring to raise prices? Something like that. Honestly, I'd completely forgotten about it. But apparently, they're finally paying out a settlement, and I benefit, due to having bought e-books during that time frame.

I got something like 90 bucks. Seriously! That'll buy quite a few new e-books. =D I'm not sure if I have to use it for that, or if it's unrestricted, but hell, let's face it. Even if I can buy whatever I want...I'll probably still spend it on e-books. XD

I'll have to go and look through my books-to-purchase list and see what I'd like to get. The email said the credit would expire in a year, so I can't just hold onto it. That's what I tend to do with gift cards; just keep it until a new book comes out that I want. Or until I decide on an existing book or series to purchase. But I don't know that any of the authors I follow will be publishing anything within the next year. So, I may just go ahead and spend it. Let's see...I still don't have all the Amelia Peabody books on my Kindle...maybe that would be a good choice. I could get quite a few this way. Hmm. Decisions, decisions!
wildvision: (Sharon - Heart)
I seriously love my Kindle. <3

In addition to the actual device, I've also got the Kindle app on my phone. (I don't read on it often, but every now and then, it's handy to have.) I got an alert from the app on my phone this afternoon, saying that Rick Riordan's books were all (presumably) on sale. So, I go and look, since I liked his Percy Jackson series. He's since written a sequel series, called Heroes of Olympus, which I haven't gotten around to reading. But I've wanted to. And, sure enough, there they were. All five of them, on sale for $1.99 each. Seriously! I got all five books for the cost of one, at regular price. (Seriously. The books were marked at $9.99 each, regular price, and $1.99 x 5 = $9.95) How freaking awesome is that? So, needless to say, I bought them.

Now I'm thinking maybe I'll go back and reread the Percy Jackson books, then start on Heroes of Olympus. It sounds like fun, though I wonder how long it'll take; that's ten books we're talking about. I read fast, but still. But, then again. It's summer break. I have time. And it's been a while since I've dove into a long series like this. Yeah...I think maybe I will. <3

OMG OMG OMG! American Pharoah just won the Belmont!

That makes him the first Triple Crown winner since 1978! 37 freaking years since the last time; that's six years before I was even born! Holy crap, seriously. I just...I've been watching for so many years, and honestly, I'd pretty much given up hope of ever seeing a Triple Crown win in my lifetime. It's so hard to begin with, and with so many owners tending to just run their horses in the last leg or two, it so often leads to an upset. I can't even tell you how many times I've seen that; a horse sweeps the Derby and the Preakness, only to lose the Belmont. It happens year after year, and after a while, you just stop thinking it'll ever happen. But it finally did!

And holy crap, he just dominated this race, too. Won by five and a half lengths, I think. Held the lead for the whole thing, too. That's something else you rarely see. Most of these major races, and likely others too, it's the horse that'll sit a few spots behind the lead that'll take it in the end. They hang back, then put on the gas in the last quarter mile or so. By then, the horses who'd been leading are often tired, and they fall back. Of course, all horses are different, but that's a common pattern. I remember watching American Pharoah run before, I forget if it was the Preakness or the Derby, but I saw him go to the front and stay there, and I thought, 'Well, he's out.' He'd been the favorite, I think. I didn't think he'd be able to hold it, but he did. Pretty much like he did today; he went straight to the lead, and then just walked away with it. He's a hell of a horse, that's for certain.

I can't believe we finally had a fucking Triple Crown win! =D =D

So, it snowed again today. Apparently winter isn't done with us, just yet. XD

Often, we'll get snow during the overnight hours. This means that, by the time I get up in the afternoon, the road crews have usually had time to do their thing. Not always, of course, but often enough. Well, not today. See, we'd been getting rain off and on since yesterday afternoon. But the temperature was high enough for it to be just rain. The temp didn't drop enough for it to turn into ice and snow until maybe 7:00 this morning, or so. So, unsurprisingly, the roads were an absolute mess when I got up today.

So, I'm working from home. And maybe an hour or so ago, I started wanting a hot drink. I was a little cold, and hey. Any time the temperature is low, hot tea/coffee/etc. is always welcome. Anyway. My first thought was hot chocolate. Dunno why, but I wanted it. But, lazy beast that I am, I opted for tea, instead. Easier and quicker to make, you see. So, I had my tea, then went back to my desk.

Then, just now, in comes my mother, carrying a mug. Of hot chocolate. Seriously. XD We must be on the same wavelength, because she decided that snow demanded hot chocolate. So, now I'm sitting here, grinningly stupidly and enjoying my chocolate. It's funny how such a little thing can make you happy. <3

Oh, and according to my dad, we're at 5 1/2 inches of snow, so far. According to the maps I've seen, the town I work in likely has even more. Last I looked, it was still snowing. Not sure if it's stopped, and if so, if there will be any more. Hopefully the roads will be cleared by tomorrow. We'll see, I guess. ^^;;

OMG, I actually got a three-day weekend. That almost never happens. XD And man, I needed it. My work schedule's been busy this past couple of weeks. I had a really nice weekend, too!

First, Mom and I got to have a bit of a girls night on Friday. We went out to eat, then saw a movie. We saw How to Train Your Dragon 2, which I've been wanting to see for ages. I'd been meaning to go, but stuff kept coming up, and then I was afraid it'd be out of theaters, soon. Luckily, our local place still had it, though! It was epic, and I'm having lots of feelings.

Massive spoilers within! )

So long story short, it was epic and I loved it. <3 Then we stopped for fries and shakes on the way home. As we were sitting there eating, Rich came by with his girlfriend, so we got to visit with them for a while. It was a really nice day, all in all.

And we also went shopping on Saturday. I needed a couple of things, plus Saturday is our usual grocery day. I always enjoy shopping with my mom, even if it's just for stuff like that. We had coffee, and then when we got home, Rich was with Dad, working in the yard. No one felt like cooking, so Dad took us out. We let Rich pick the resturant, since he so rarely gets to go out with all of us. He picked a local Mexican place, and it ended up being a pleasant surprise. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but I ended up finding a dish that I'd never had before, and that I ended up liking. So, yay.

The only interesting thing I did on Sunday was watch the premiere of the new Sailor Moon anime. And, like everyone else, I'm forming opinions.

No spoilers )

...Geez, this got long! XD
wildvision: (Utena/Anthy - Kiss from a rose)
Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it! I hope you had a good one. <3 I know I did.

We had dinner first, which is always nice. My mom's an awesome cook. And, in a stunning first, my brother made dessert; a mint-chocolate layer cake. It was really good, too. Dark chocolate cake, mint buttercream, dark chocolate ganache, and some mint and chocolate chips to garnish the top. Very pretty, as well as delicious. We were all suitably impressed. Mom especially; she says she always has trouble doing layer cakes, structure-wise. She usually ends up putting toothpicks in to keep it together and upright. But Rich did great; it held together, and was stable. So, yay.

After dinner, we exchanged gifts. Everyone liked what I got them. I was fairly sure they would, but it's still nice to see. =) And I liked my gifts, too! Among other things, I got some lovely anime and manga, courtesy of RightStuf's epic holiday sale. Have you ever seen Simoun, [personal profile] amelia_seyroon? It's a yuri/shoujo-ai title, I gather. I can't remember if that's one you've mentioned before or not. But, it looks cool. The rest are ones I'm more familiar with. I've seen the first bits of Vampire Princess Miyu and Shakugan no Shana; at least enough to know I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

And Rich brought his puppy with him, so it was hilarious watching him. Running around, trying to play with the weiners, and just being generally silly. He's so freaking cute, too. I swear, him and Millie...they went back and forth all day, I think. One thing I bought for Rich was a dog bed for him; he loved it. And whenever he was out of it, Millie was in. XD Then he'd come back and grumble and try to get her out.

That was about it for the excitement today, I think. After Rich went home, I watched some TV. Nothing special. Then, I've been puttering around online for a bit. I'd hoped to be a little productive today, but that's clearly not going to happen. XD Oh, well. I've just finished some left-overs, but now I'm eyeing that cake. Hmm...off to the kitchen I go~
wildvision: (Makoto - Wings)
I'm so glad it's the weekend. I would be anyway, but this one has gotten off to a fairly good start. =D

First, my Rose of Versailles boxset came in the mail on Friday! Did I mention how much I love RightStuf? <3 The site listed the release date as May 7th...so I figured that's when it would ship. Or, best case, that it might get here by the 7th. Nope! I got an email earlier this week saying it had shipped, and then there it was on my doorstep on Friday. So, so much love. I haven't opened it yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to watching it.

And the "free gift with purchase" turned out to be a pencilboard. It's kind of neat...I'd always heard of them, but I've never owned one. And it wasn't quite what I expected. I figured it would be a hard, rigid surface...like the cover of a hardback book. But it's flexible and very thin...kind of like laminated glossy paper. Either way, it's neat. Pretty BeruBara art~

Then today, we took a little trip. Nowhere far, but farther than we usually go. There's a town up near St. Louis that has a big mall, and a lot of other stores that they don't have where I live. We usually go there maybe once a year, for Christmas shopping...if that. But lately, Dad has been going there for work, and he'd been trying the resturants and such. He said he wanted to eat at Red Robin, so he suggested we make a day of it and go shopping and eat and whatnot.

So we did. And I have to say...I was surprised. I'm not a big fan of beef, so I'm really picky about my burgers. If it's not done just a certain way, I don't like it. So I didn't really expect much from Red Robin, which is famous for their burgers. I figured I'd get chicken or something. But, as we were walking in, we could smell that chargrilled meat smell....and then I wanted a burger. XD So I looked over the menu, and found one burger that wasn't made with a gigantic patty. And it was really good! I think it was called the 'tavern double' or something...it was a basic double cheeseburger, and OMG. The grill flavor was awesome. And then for dessert, we all shared a Bailey's shake. So, yeah. We all loved it, and agreed that we'd have to go eat there again.

After that, we went to Barnes and Noble for a bit. I got the two newest volumes of the Sailor Moon manga. Then Mom wanted to look in Coldwater Creek. She found some pants she liked, and Dad and I had a laugh waiting for her. Next up was the mall. We actually didn't roam around as much as we might have, but we looked at what we wanted to. There's a Yankee Candle shop there, so Mom got a couple of candles, and I got her another one for Mother's Day. Then we stopped in Teavana. I've heard of the chain, but I'd never been in one; this one wasn't there the last time I was in that mall. So Mom and I walked around, tried the samples, and looked at all the pretty teaware. And I kinda see why they have a reputation for pushy salespeople. The girl who walked us around was nice, but the girl at the tea counter was a little pushy. I ended up buying a tin of an herbal tea blend; it was one of the ones they sampled, so I know I like it...still, I did not intend to spend that much. Oh, well. It's not like I go there regularly or anything. And I'll know for next time. ^^;;

After the mall, we went to Dunkin' Donuts. I know, I know...Starbucks fan, here. But Dad said that their iced coffee was really good, so Mom and I wanted to try it. And damn...it is good! I got the butter pecan flavor that they've got as a promo right now, and it was awesome. Now I kinda wish they had one of these closer to home! We also brought back some donuts, since we'd never tried those, either. They were okay. I liked the maple frosted one the best. The others I tried weren't any better than what we get locally; some weren't as good. (Dixie Cream kicks every other donut shop's ass. Period.)

Then we headed home. I tried to sleep in the car, but I kept getting woken up. So I napped when we got home. Got up and had some dinner, then napped a little more. Yeah, so not productive today. XD And now it's time for bed, again. Ah, well. It was a fun day. And I have tomorrow to try and be productive!
wildvision: (Default)
Well, I finished watching Rose of Versailles this weekend. And OMG. So many feelings. I love this series so freaking much. <3

Not gonna lie, I cried during the last couple of episodes. More than once. But then, damn. It's a sad ending! I don't know...it's just tragic and heartbreaking, but there's a little bit of good (?) to it as well, so...Argh, I don't know. I haven't quite decided how I feel about it all, yet. It hurts, but I still adore this series and will watch it again.

Now, if only there was an active fandom! I want fic, damn it. Warm, fluffy, happy Oscar/Andre fic.
wildvision: (Default)
...They're releasing The Rose of Versailles! =D

Man, I've heard of this one since way back in the day, but there was never an English release. I don't know why, because it's awesome. <3 In addition to the upcoming DVD sets, RightStuf has also decided to offer the series for streaming, here. So, I pre-ordered the DVDs, and I've been watching it on Viki in the meantime. ^^;; I'm impatient that way.

And OMG, I am in love. <3 Sure, the art's a little dated, but honestly? I don't really care. It's action-y, and shoujo-y, and I can see why it was so influential to the genre. And I totally want to be Oscar when I grow up. <3 So freaking badass.

Have you seen this one, [personal profile] amelia_seyroon? I've always heard it referenced in relation to SKU, and now that I'm watching it, I can see why. It's got a similar feel to SKU, but without the mindscrew element. And I swear, Oscar must be Utena's great-great-etc-grandmother. <3 I'd always heard that SKU took some inspiration from RoV, and it shows. So, if you like SKU, I'm guessing you'd like this.

I just finished episode eight, so I've still got a ways to go. (It has 40 episodes total, I think.) I'm looking forward to watching the rest, though I'm a bit worried about how it will end. My history isn't very good, but I know enough about the French Revolution to know that it's not going to be pretty. =( Things are still in the happy-and-carefree stage now, but I know it's going to get darker and more sad as the series progresses. We'll just have to see, I guess.
wildvision: (Kaiba - Create)
...I upgraded to a smart phone.

Yeah, I know. It's about freaking time, huh? My parents have been pestering me to upgrade for ages, but I just couldn't get myself to do it. Largely because of the cost. They were never cheap, and I just didn't think I'd use the 'smart' aspect enough for it to be worth the cost. But now, it turns out that upgrading would only raise the monthly charge for my phone by $10. That's not bad at all. And, I even lucked out and got the phone itself on sale. Normally they go for $200, but I got it for $100. <3

I went with a Samsung Galaxy S III, which is what my dad has. I swear, it was funny. I was talking to Mom and Dad about which phone I'd want, and they were both showing off theirs and pointing out the cool features. Dad's got the Galaxy and Mom's got an iPhone. My brother also has an iPhone. I swear, Dad did a little cheer when I told him I'd decided on the Samsung. XD I guess he was feeling alone.

So we ran to Best Buy on Saturday night, since the sale ended that day. I swear, the girl who was helping us was a little gobsmacked when she saw how long it'd been since I'd upgraded my phone. (2008) Then I told her that I'd had a phone since I graduated HS, that I was 28 now, and I'd only had two in that span. She was pretty surprised. Apparently everyone else either just trades them in or breaks them much more frequently than that. XD

So we got my phone and came home...only to find that it was buggy. I was playing with it while we drove home, and I noticed it. Then Dad looked at it once we got home, and he saw it, too. So, he started tinkering around, trying to fix it. Nothing. Finally, he gave up and said we'd have to take it back.

So, that's what we did today. Got up this morning and went back to Best Buy. Told the guy there what was going on, and he tried fixing it, too. He didn't have any more luck than Dad, so he swapped it out and gave me a new one. This one seems to be working fine. <3

And, of course, I've been playing with it all day. Looking up ringtones, and apps, and just tinkering around with things in general. It's pretty neat. And I even found a case I liked in the store; I kinda figured I'd have to order one. Believe it or not, I found one that was frosted purple; nearly the same shade as my old car, no joke. So I had to have it. XD

...Ack, I need to be getting to bed. It's getting late, and tomorrow's Monday. =P
wildvision: (Duo - Can of kickass)
My Verismo finally came in the mail! =D I'm pretty psyched. Haven't gotten to try it out yet, though. I thought it would come with a box of pods, but it didn't. So we didn't have anything to brew with it. Whoops! XD So, the next time we're out, we'll buy a box. Still. I got a $200 coffee maker for free. I'm so not complaining. <3

Also been doing some Christmas shopping. I'm almost done with Dad and Mom...I need to get them both something else, but just a little. I'm eyeing some stuff on ThinkGeek for Dad, but I don't know what I want to get Mom. I'm planning to get her an Amazon gift card, but that won't be enough. So I have to think of something else. I'm kinda thinking I might try to get Dad to go shopping with me this weekend, so we can look for stuff without her seeing.

I've finally started on Rich's gifts, too. Haven't gotten much yet, though. I got him a little Sandrock figure from Gundam Wing, because we were talking about it the other day and he was all sappy and nostalgic. So, I thought he'd like it. Also, I decided to try my hand at calligraphy. Yeah. XD He said he was making me something, so I kinda wanted to try to make something, too. Plus with the nostalgic talk, I was thinking about us watching a lot of anime together when we were younger. So, then 'calligraphy' popped into my head; I figure, this is something I can do! It probably won't be pretty, but he's never studied the language, so he won't be able to tell. XD I'm still deciding which kanji I'll do. After that, I'll have to pester him into telling me what else he'd want.

Oh, and besides my Verismo, I also got ponies in the mail! Just two little blind bags, but I've got more coming. eBay is like, the best thing ever, seriously. Very good for feeding my growing pony addiction. Once I get the rest, I'll probably take pictures and post. Because I am a dork like that. XD

...Yeah, this post was a little random. ^^;; Oh, well. I'm off to bed now, I suppose.

Oh, thank God. Obama was re-elected. My country isn't completely full of morons, after all! =D

According to this map I found, Obama won pretty handily, too. <3 He had nearly 100 more electoral votes and he won the popular vote, too. I am so freaking relieved. Like, weak-kneed, over here. I kinda thought Obama would win, but I was so scared of what'd happen if we actually elected Romney. *Shudder* I kept poking at a bunch of news sites all evening at work...the waiting was brutal, seriously. But it was all worth it, to see those big headlines calling the race for Obama. <3

And not only did Obama win, but at least two of the more vocal anti-choice fuckheads that were running (Akin and Mourdock) lost to their Democratic opponents! Neither one was in my state, so I couldn't help vote them out, but it still made me happy. Maybe now, these psycho anti-choicers will back the fuck off. Yeah, yeah, wishful thinking, I know...

I am so, so glad this election season is over. I swear...it was just toxic. I know that politics suck, and it's always a circus come election time, but good grief. I swear, I think it was worse this time than it was in either of the other presidential elections I voted in. So, I am very much ready for it to be over. No more obnoxious political ads. No more stupid yard signs. No more ignorant, hateful things said by these fuckwit Republicans. (Yeah, I know, they'll come back. But hopefully they'll shut up for a while, anyway.)

Now, it's time for some dinner, and a little TV. Then off to bed. I should sleep much better tonight!

My brother finally got a new car! His has been on its last legs for a while now; he's had a lot of trouble with it. He'd been wanting to get a new one for a while, but financing was an issue. He didn't have enough credit to get one on his own, and my dad's already cosigned on my car, so we didn't think they'd let him cosign for Rich, too. I tried earlier this year to refinance mine, so it'd just be in my name, but they wouldn't let me. =P But, it doesn't matter now, because apparently they will let you cosign on multiple vehicles at the same time. <3 So, Dad cosigned and Rich got his car.

Over the weekend, we all went 'round the local dealerships to look at the used cars. Rich only saw a couple that he liked, that were in his price range. He ended up going back on Monday morning, with Mom, to test drive a couple of them. He was looking mostly at a Mustang convertible and a Mini Cooper. I forget what model years they were; not that old, but not new, either. Then I guess he went with our parents to the dealership again tonight, because I got a call while I was sitting there at work. He said he ended up going with the Mustang. He got a warranty, and his monthly payments are reasonable. (Actually, it's not far from what I pay; my car is newer, though, so I think I got the better deal.)

I haven't actually seen the car yet, but I'm really happy for him. He needed a new car, badly. I've been worried about him driving that old one, and annoyed that I couldn't refinance mine so he could get a new one sooner. And he's wanted a Mustang since he was a kid. So, for him to be able to get that particular car? That's awesome. <3

Well, I am officially surprised. I always figured that I wouldn't like pizza from Chicago, since I prefer a thin crispy crust. But my dad went to a training thing up by Chicago last week, and he brought home a couple of pizzas that he'd bought from a local pizzeria, half-baked and frozen so they could be prepared when he got them home.

The pizzeria was Giordano's, and oh my God it was good. Granted, it wasn't what I think of as traditional Chicago-style; super deep-dish, with lots of sauce. It was more like someone took a regular pie shell, and instead of filling it with fruit or custard, they filled it with pizza toppings. Mostly cheese. =D (Obviously, it was pizza crust and not pie crust, but the proportions were about the same.)

We all loved it, and now I'm thinking I might have a couple shipped here for my brother's birthday. I've been trying to think of what to get him, and as we were eating, I asked Mom if she thought he'd like one. She said he probably would, so I might end up doing that. All he'd have to do is defrost it, then bake it. Easy. And it's a lot better than the food he normally cooks, so he'd probably appreciate that. And hell, it's different! XD I usually suck at buying gifts, but I might have hit on a good one, this time!

I was checking my email earlier, and I found a message from one of the mods at the Starbucks website. It said that they were launching their new one-cup brewing system, and they wanted to give me one, if I'd send them my address.

Now, obviously, I was skeptical. I've been a regular on the forum part of the site, and I know they've given away product to frequent posters before...but it's generally been like, a pack of Via or a bag of coffee. Nothing expensive, y'know? (And according to the post, this machine retails for something like $200.) So, I found the post announcing the new machine and left a comment, asking for a mod to confirm that the message was legit. I figured it was a typo or something; that they were offering a box of pods for the new machine, or something. (Or that it was fake, entirely.)

A short while later, I got another email from a mod, saying that she'd seen my comment and yes, it was legit. They had a few machines to give away, and I was on the list. So, I gave her my address. =D

...I just can't get over this. I mean, how often does this happen? Just, out of the blue, a company says, "Hey, we'd like to give you a $200 coffee maker, for free. Just because."

So, yeah. I'm kind of thrilled right now. XD

...But, I had a pretty nice weekend. <3

On Saturday, I went out to eat with my parents. We went to a local Italian place that they'd been to, but I hadn't. And, OMG. The food was so good. I had linguini carbanara, and it was seriously fabulous. And since Mom agreed to split it with me, we had dessert, too. I think it was called a 'Xango', or something; I'd never heard of it before. But it was a slice of cheesecake, deep fried, rolled in sugar and drizzled with caramel sauce and served with ice cream. Holy crap. I've never had anything like it before, but it was awesome. <3

Then today, we all went to a local craft fair. Now, normally this wouldn't really be my thing. But they'd gone last year, and Mom said that they had quite a few vendors selling jewelry, so I agreed to come along this time. And I'm glad I did. They really did have a lot of neat stuff to look at. I bought a pretty copper necklace. I love swirly designs like that, and the copper pendant on a black cord is really striking. And I am such a nerd that the first thing I thought when I saw it was, "Air Nomad symbol!" XD

Besides all the craft stalls, they also had a bunch of food vendors. So, we got fair food, too! I had a corndog and an orange shake-up. And we had funnel cakes before we left, too. <3 Om nom nom.

The only bad part was that I had to get up early to go, so since I've been home, I've been pretty sleepy. Heck, I'm pretty sure I napped a little, but I'm still tired. I might try and go to bed early tonight.
