Idiot Drivers
Jul. 16th, 2014 07:25 pmWell, I had an interesting night last night.
Some moron hit the utility pole across the street from my house around midnight or so, and knocked it down. Which knocked the power out for us, and various other houses close by. I get a call while I'm sitting at work; Mom, telling me to be careful when I get home, because there are wires down in our driveway. So I say okay, and finish out my shift.
When I get home, it's around 1:45 to 2:00. They had people out working on it, and had my street blocked off with a squad car. So I ended up sitting at the stop sign where my street meets the one I was on, trying to figure out how I could get parked. After a minute or two, Mom comes walking down the sidewalk. Apparently she and Dad had been outside talking with some of the guys there, and she saw me sitting at the stop sign. It being dark, plus with the flashing lights on the car, I was having trouble judging the distances, and I wasn't sure how I could get down the street without hitting anything. Mom, standing outside, was able to see better, so she directed me around the far side of the cruiser, then onto the grass in front of our house.
So, Mom and I went inside, and she went to bed. I rummaged around for a candle, and took a bath. I didn't have anything better to do, plus my hair takes forever to dry if I let it air dry. Turns out it was a good thing I did. Shortly after I finished, Dad came back in and said that the guys were expecting to have the power up by around noon the next day. Yeah. =/ I wasn't thrilled with that.
My phone was nearly drained, since I'd been using it all evening, and had expected to plug it in to the charger when I got home. So I couldn't play games or get online, or anything with my phone. I needed to save what battery it had left for my alarm the next day. Luckily, I thought of my Kindle. I'd charged it recently, so it had plenty of juice. And it has a light built into the case, so I could use it in the dark. I ended up reading the Divergent short story collection that I bought earlier this month, but hadn't gotten around to reading yet. It was good, and it actually was just the right length. A couple of minutes before I finished it, the lights came back on. This was maybe 5:30 or so. So I ran around blowing out the candles we'd left lit, then finished my book. Then I went to bed. ^^;;
Today was calmer, though I was feeling particularly whiny before I left for work. Just a mix of being tired and ready for my vacation next week. Plus, my coworker is here late, again this week, and I have my weekly paperwork to start on tonight. Neither of which is any fun. But, my night just got better. Mom had to go to Krogers to get her medicine refilled. She told me about it before I left, so I asked if she'd mind bringing me dinner, while she was out. She said sure, and she texted me a little while ago, saying she was ready and what did I want. So I told her, and she said that she was also bringing me a coffee! She'd gotten one since she was at Krogers anyway, and she got me one, too. <3 So, yeah. It's a little silly, how a pizza and an iced coffee can lift your mood, but there you go. My mom is so freaking awesome. <3
