WTF, Weather?!
Feb. 18th, 2015 06:49 pmOkay, so the midwest got buried under snow this week. And that includes my little corner of southern Illinois.
It started coming down on Sunday evening, and it was still snowing when I got up Monday afternoon. There was enough that even the main highways weren't cleaned, even by the afternoon. So I worked from home that night. Luckily, by Tuesday afternoon, things were looking better. The roads had been cleared, so I was able to drive to work. Huzzah. Then, later, when I came outside at the end of my shift...It had snowed again. All the sidewalks, parking lots, everything that had been cleared? All covered again. Plus the cars, of course. So that was irritating. And, of course, the highways hadn't been cleaned again yet, so the drive home was a little hairy. Not the worst I've driven in, thankfully, but not fun, either.
Then, today? I look outside, and see the roads have been cleared. Yay. All is well. So I go about my routine, get ready for work. I go outside, get in the car, turn the key, and...nothing happens. My freaking car won't start. I tried a few more times, with the same results. I think it's the battery, and Mom agreed. So, here I am. Working from home, again. I feel so bad, but I know it's really not my fault. Mom said she thinks the battery may have drained because of the cold. (Apparently that's a thing that happens. Ugh.) It's just so freaking aggravating. My car worked fine yesterday. No problems at all. Then, all of a sudden, today it doesn't want to run? Yeah, I know, mechanical things do that sometimes. Still annoying.
So, I'm going to get Dad to try and charge it after he has dinner tonight. It sounds like I may have to get a new one, though. Either way, hopefully, it'll be ready to go by tomorrow.
ETA: Yup, needed a new one! Besides being dead, the old one was pretty corroded. And, I hadn't though of it, but this battery was in the car when I bought it. So, yeah. Old battery plus freakishly cold weather equals bleh.
