So, I Caved!
...I watched the raw of the FMA movie. ^^;; Let it be said that I have no patience! I just couldn't wait. Really. And so, now I fangirl.
Quality: The quality wasn't as bad as I'd expected it to be, what with what everyone's been saying. Granted, it is a camera feed, so it's not great, but it's watchable. There are just a couple of points where the guy aims the camera at the wrong spot, and later in the movie he keeps shifting around a lot, but still. =P
Plot: I read all the summaries and translations that I could get my hands on, so I think I can say I have a fairly decent idea of what's going on. And it was fairly good. Could have been better, could have been worse, y'know?
New Characters:
-- Okay, Alphonse H. is just adorable. I don't know why, but he is.
-- Also, I really liked Noah's character design. She's very pretty. I really liked the scenes with her dancing/singing. ^_^
-- And the villain? Is a crazy psycho bitch. No, really. She's just batshit insane, I think. At least that's the image one gets of her, without the benefit of dialogue translations. ^^;;
Returning Cast:
-- I adore Ed's Munich look. ♥
-- Speaking of Ed...What the hell happened to his automail? He had it after he crossed over at the end of the series, didn't he? Also, what's with the prosthetics he's wearing now? They seem awfully advanced for that time period...Or am I completely wrong?
-- Also, Al dressed up as Ed is cute in a hero-worshipy kinda way. I actually think that I like Al better with short hair, though. Not sure why; normally I love long hair on a guy who wears it well. (And all the Elrics have gorgeous hair)
-- They killed Izumi! ;_; That just sucks. Granted, it's not totally surprising, what with the state of her health, but still! *Adores Izumi*
-- Okay, what's with Wrath being all cooperative now? Weird. Although, his fight with Gluttony was cool.
-- Poor Roy; all solitary and depressed. Though, I loved when he came back during the battle at the end. In his gloves, snapping and giving orders just like old times. ♥!
-- Yay for Sheska being in the movie! I didn't expect that she would be.
-- Much love for Winry's new look. It really suits her.
Random Other Comments:
-- Loved the scene when the armor that Al bound some of his soul to met Ed. So cute!
-- Also loved when Ed made it back to Amestris, and Winry and Al are there to greet him. Hell, I love all of the reunion scenes!
-- And Roy! He's just like, "Hisashiburi, hagane no!", like it's nothing...He's such a dork sometimes. ^_^;;
-- Though, I must say, the sappy fangirl in me was a bit disappointed in the lack of mushy Elric reunion. Al's all, 'OMG, niisan! *glomp*', but Ed's just...not. And he should be. I mean, geez. Al's got his body back. That's what you were working toward for the entirety of the series, right? So, be a little more enthusiastic about it, will ya!
-- And dude, Roy, Ed, and Al all fighting together? SO much love! ♥!
-- Poor Alphonse H...Why did they have to kill him? Granted, he looked like he wouldn't live much longer anyway (what did he have, anyway? TB?), but still!
And finally, my thoughts on The Ending:
-- I was so glad that they didn't separate Ed and Al again. I think that was one of the main things that the fans were afraid that they'd do. So that was a relief. Granted, I'd much rather they have been able to stay in Amestris, but at least they're together. Too bad Hohenheim died, or they could be a happy little family. (Well, probably not. But it would sure be interesting to see!)
-- However, they did separate two of my favorite FMA couples; Roy/Ed and Al/Winry. I'd rather that they hadn't done that. Oh, well. Not like I ever expected my pairings of choice to become canon, anyway. (Canon romance, in a shounen series? Perish the thought! =P)
-- And Al remembers everything now, apparently. How the heck did that happen exactly?
-- I kinda wish they'd given us more info about what happened to the rest of the cast, though. Particularly Roy, Riza, and the rest of the military guys.
Overall:
I liked it, mostly. I'll happily download a fansub or buy an HK disk as soon as one becomes available. ♥
