Friday Fangirl Review: The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg

Ooh, I'm glad it's Friday...but then, I always am. =)

Well, I watched the Sentinel series finale today...dude, there are no words.

So, so freaking awesome. I knew a fair bit of how things turned out (Thank you for those unmarked spoilers, Wikipedia! =P), but it was still really good. And hell, I never saw the bit with Megan and Simon coming. I was fairly confident they wouldn't kill either of them off, but I was still on the edge of my seat.

Naomi never really bothered me that much until this episode...I mean, she was always flaky (which is kind of annoying), but that was it. I know, to be fair, she had no idea how sensitive the material in Blair's thesis was. But still. He told her not to touch it, and she hands it over to the media. WTF, man? Seriously...to any normal person, "This is only a first draft, I don't want anyone reading it until I can fix it." would be a plenty good deterrent. But not Naomi. Honestly, though? The thing that got me was that neither Blair nor Jim seemed all that mad at her. Not the lasting kind of mad, anyway. I sure as hell wouldn't have forgiven her that fast, mother or no.

Speaking of the media, anyone else think it was weird how readily they all believed Blair's story? Seriously...you'd think they'd think he was nuts, and demand proof, before offering him a Nobel Prize. Yeah, there's tons of data in his paper, but that could easily be falsified. (As evidenced by the fact that his lie was believed.)

And it's always weird to see Jim and Blair at odds...hell, their partnership is the foundation of the damn show. I was so glad to see them make up. (The part when Jim said that Blair was one of the best cops he knew really got me. <3) Poor Blair, though. The tone of his voice when he's giving that press conference...he sounded like he was going to cry. I felt so bad for him...and the sad thing is, only Jim and Simon really understand what he did; what he was giving up, and why.

Another thing that I thought was a little weird is that the other guys in Major Crimes didn't seem to think anything of all this. I mean, they teased Jim and Blair when the mess first hit the fan, but that's because they didn't know that it was serious. Then, Blair declares his research fraudulent on live TV (and we know they saw it, 'cause they called Jim in to watch)...and next we see Blair with Joel in the office, and Joel's acting like nothing's changed; he seemed surprised that Blair was planning to leave. They clearly believe that it all was a hoax (heck, Blair says something along the lines of "I'm a fraud, Joel. Simon's not going to want me around anymore." So, obviously they're not in on it.) And yet, none of them seem unhappy/surprised/etc about it all. I mean...I guess I can buy that they don't see lying about what's essentially a school project to be that big of a deal. (Except that a doctoral thesis is a hell of a lot bigger deal than just your average term paper...) But, still...while some people won't flip over academic dishonestly, they'd usually get hung up on the 'dishonest' part. Like, since when is Blair a liar? Maybe they figured that since he came clean so fast, all was forgiven? Only other thing I can think of is that they're taking a cue from Jim and Simon (the ones who have cause to be angry with Blair); Jim and Simon aren't mad...hell, they're grateful/happy because Blair saved their asses. So...I have no idea. XP

I squee'd so hard when Jim gave Blair that badge, though. Yes, I firmly believe that after the series, Blair went to the Academy and got his very own badge and gun, and became Jim's full-fledged partner. Because, hell, he's been a cop in all but name and firearms for three years now. May as well make it official. =D Although, I agree...Detective Sandburg better keep that long hair. <3

...Aaaaand I totally need to get to bed now. G'night~
