Stupidity Should Be Painful...
Dec. 20th, 2013 04:52 amI often poke around on Facebook when I'm bored at work. I have an account, but I don't use it for anything other than sharing funny cat pictures with my mother and reading news sites. And this one story is freaking everywhere right now. It's taking all my self-control to refrain from yelling at these idiots...I know it would do no good, and it's not worth it. So, here I am. =D
So there's this whole "scandal" with one of the Duck Dynasty guys. He's an ignorant, homophobic racist and was stupid enough to say as much in an official interview. And the network that carries the show, A&E, was actually really on the ball, and suspended him quickly after. (Which I thoroughly approve of.) And now, all the inbred rednecks are coming out of the woodwork to scream about it. And it's really pissing me off. Not just that there are people defending this fucker, though that's pretty awful. But the sheer ignorance I keep seeing when they do.
First of all, I'd like to bludgeon these idiots with a hardbound copy of the Constitution. So many people are screaming 'free speech', but that has nothing to do with this situation. This guy is allowed to say whatever he wants. He's not been arrested or jailed by the government for what he said. So his right to free speech is perfectly intact. "Freedom of speech" does not mean the freedom to say whatever you want with no consequences. Period. This is a simple concept, but the sheer number of idiots who don't get it is staggering. No one is stopping this guy from saying what he wants. But he doesn't get to skip the consequences, either. You say something hateful, people are going to get mad. And as a celebrity, if you make your parent company look bad in public, they have the right to drop your ass. Also, that freedom of speech that they're screaming about also protects MY right to call this bastard out on what a shitty human being he is. But of course, they never want to acknowledge that. =P
Second, I seriously want to beat the next person who screams 'intolerance' at the people who are objecting to this guy. Tolerance does not mean I have to silently put up with your bigotry. I respect your right to have your opinion, but I sure as hell don't respect that opinion. You're insulting and condemning an entire group of people for something they can't control and that doesn't hurt anybody. I'm telling you that that's a shitty way to act. Which one of us is really the bad guy, here? =/
Also? Anyone who claims that Christians are being persecuted or discriminated against gets a swift kick to the head. Being told that everyone does not have to bow down to your ignorant dogma is not persecution. Being told that other people have rights, even if that contradicts your dogma, is not discrimination. This is not a theocracy. Your religion is not absolute. And religion is not a free pass to do or say whatever you want, without question or consequence. If you spout hateful dogma, people are going to object to it. It doesn't matter if it's your religion. If it's wrong, it's wrong. And frankly...if so many of your 'beliefs' are getting you yelled at, you should take a good hard look at your religion and find out why that is. And hopefully grow up and be a better human being.
Grr. So many stupid people, so few comets.
