Umineko Episodes 7 & 8
Well, I finally finished Umineko. I actually got so caught up in it that I didn't jot things down much, the way I did with previous episodes. ^^;; So, this post is kinda short.
Damn. XD That sums it up pretty well.
Really, though. I'm still kinda wrapping my head around things, but I was fairly happy with it. Things may not have ended exactly the way I'd have liked, but it was a lot better than I'd expected it would be. See, I've been a Fantasy fan from day one. And from watching the fandom (which seems to be overwhelmingly made up of Mystery fans), I was afraid that things would be bluntly spelled out as being Mystery, with all the Fantasy elements denied. But! That didn't happen, so yay.
There are two endings; 'magic' and 'trick'...though honestly, I think that 'good' and 'bad' fits better. Since there are still Fantasy elements in the 'trick' ending! Which I really didn't expect. And I was fairly happy with the 'magic' ending, which is what I read first, of course! Kind of bittersweet in places, but over all, not too sad. Of course, I teared up over the Beato/Battler scene with the water. It was sad, but somehow, still satisfying to the sappy romantic in me. <3 And the reunion at the very end made it all better, anyway~
I was surprised to see that Lion and Will came back in this game...after how Episode 7 ended, I didn't expect to see them again. Granted, I was glad. Despite them being introduced so late in the game, I ended up really liking both of them. And now I ship them, damn it! XD
And Erika! XD Not entirely sure how I feel about that. Honestly, I pretty well hated Erika in Episodes 5-6...but she was more amusing here. Maybe it's because she got several kick-ass scenes. (Rescuing Ange from the goats! Leading a pirate armada! Getting her ass kicked by the various characters in the Golden Land! What can I say, she's the sort you love to hate. So it was good to see her get clocked! XD)
There were a lot of kick-ass scenes, period. Lots of epic fights! (Lambda vs. Bern! The good guys vs. the goats!) And I admit, I liked the sappy game Battler showed Ange in the beginning, to remind her that no matter what the outside world thought, her family all loved her. (Seeing Kinzo as a gushy grandpa was kind of hilarious.) And I like that I can still ship Ange/Amakusa. XD Yeah, not according to the 'trick' ending, but with the 'magic' one it's possible. Ange is a happier person, and she goes off to her new identity...with Amakusa in tow. <3
...Yeah, that's about it for now. I need to get to bed. I may post again later, with more thoughts. I dunno. ^^;;
