I swear, I have the oddest luck sometimes. Today, I burned my foot. Now, that's an unusual injury to begin with, but the way I burned it is just facepalm-worthy.

I was heating up some lunch in the microwave, to have before I went to work. Normal enough. It was a frozen mac-and-cheese dinner; I was in a hurry. It finishes heating, and I pull the plastic off the top. Then, as I go to throw it away, a big glob of cheese dripped off the plastic, right on top of my foot. And geez, that freaking hurt. Obviously it's not a serious burn or anything, but still. Ow!

And it's just such an odd, random way to injure yourself, that's what gets me! I've made frozen dinners tons of times, and it never would have occurred to me that this might happen. Usually, you have to watch your fingers, so you don't burn them on the steam as you remove the plastic. I'd never have thought I'd have to worry about a sneak attack from a bit of sauce on the plastic itself! XD

So now I've got band-aids plastered to my foot, and I'm stuck wearing sneakers, since my sandals rub uncomfortably on the burn. I swear, I'm half annoyed, half amused. Annoyed, because it hurts, obviously. But now, a few hours after the fact...it's kinda funny. It's just so goofy. So, hopefully it'll heal quick.

Okay...WTF?

Dude...that was odd.

I'm at work, okay? Sitting here, doing my own thing. Janitorman is puttering around in here, cleaning. And then, randomly, he gets my attention. (Which, considering I'm sitting here with headphones on and ignoring him, is annoying.) Now, I'm fully expecting a stupid question. (This guy's not very bright.) But not one quite that stupid.

He asks me how long I've been here. Which, in and of itself, isn't stupid. Annoying, because he interrupted what I was doing to make random small talk. (Especially considering that I don't like him in the first place.) So I tell him "a couple of years". Then he says that he was wondering if I'd been there for 15-20 years. O_o So I said that'd be quite a trick, considering that I'm only 24.

...Seriously. I do not look anywhere near that old. Really. I just don't even know.

But then, like I said...this guy ain't all there. He's weird; the quintessential "few tacos short of a combination plate" type. And faintly creepy, besides. Bleh. I wish we could get our old janitor back. He works in one of the other buildings now, I think. But I think most people would be better than this guy. =P

I love my job, but that was just weird~!

Umm...What?

Bit of a 'wtf?' moment from work, this happened a few days ago.

Excuse me, I believe you have my stapler... )

...Sometimes people are just weird, I guess. ^^;;

...No, really, I am!

My mother bought me a little plot of land on a Scottish estate; she'd meant it to be a Christmas gift, but she ended up telling me about it beforehand. Granted, it's not any significant amount of land...but still! It's completely legal; I've got a title deed, and, according to Scottish law, the legal right to use the title 'Lady'. Cool, ne? *Grins* Yes, I am easily amused.

Had a real idiot at work tonight. I'm standing at my register, when this lady comes up to me to ask a question. She wanted to know if we had single bottles of water, other than the ones in the cooler. Turns out she wanted to mix some formula for her baby, but didn't want to have to buy a 6-pack of bottled water, and couldn't use the cold ones. I told her I didn't think we did; even asked my GSTL to make sure. Answer's no. So, resigned to buy a larger quantity of water, she heads off to fetch some...leaving her baby (which is small enough to be in a carrier) in her cart, in the middle of my lane.

My GSTL and I were both kinda shocked...we couldn't believe this moron actually went off and left her kid. My GSTL was muttering under her breath about how stupid it was...I just wanted the thing out of my lane. =P She ended up taking the cart (and baby) up to the service desk, so I could go back to helping customers...but geez! How stupid do you have to be to do something like that? When I told my mom about it later, she said I should have asked my GSTL to call DCFS...I agree; I probably would have, if I hadn't been so surprised at the time. Honestly...If you're willing to just go off and leave your kid in the care of a couple of random strangers (who never agreed to watch it, btw)...that's a pretty good sign that you have no business having kids. =P

And now, for the fics!

Chapters 34 and 35 of Pawns, by [livejournal.com profile] velvet_mace.

This fic is as brilliant as ever. She's wrapping things up beautifully...shouldn't be too much longer until this one's done. As much as I want to see how it ends, I'll really miss scouring LJ for new Pawns chapters. ^^;;

Parts 7, 8, 9 of TARM:SET, by [livejournal.com profile] sky_dark.

I truly am in awe of [livejournal.com profile] sky_dark's ability to produce such wonderful fic, so quickly! Humorous, serious, sweet...this fic has it all! If you like Roy/Ed, and haven't read this yet, then get to it!
